The Source of Meat for School Lunch Programs

An important investigation by the Humane Society on the use of downed cattle for meat slated for the school lunch program. It's tough to watch, I am sorry, but you need to see this.

Thanks for sharing this. I'd read about this various places, but hadn't watched the video (avoiding it, really). I'm vegetarian for a lot of reasons that are sometimes hard for me to explain, but this video sums up so many of them. And, it shows me that maybe just not eating meat at a personal level isn't enough.

I wrote about this on my paid blog. It's really horrific. As Jen said, what IS wrong with people?

I cannot fathom how we got here, that this questionable meat is slated for school lunches, that these animals could be treated this way. It is appalling.

I missed the 'school lunch' angle on this...ugh. (not that there are levels of disgust, as it's universal)

When you think about wee ones' systems and reaction to tainted ANYthing in terms of stomach sensitivity and high risk reactions though this is beyond abominable...Have you seen the new documentary from 'Two Angry Moms' produced re: the school lunch program? "It's a movie, it's a movement?" http://www.angrymoms.org/

They need to see this for sure. Want to blog it for us, Beth? As a chef extraordinaire, it's high time we heard from you in the healthy kids arena over on Shaping Youth? Let me know when you have time...we'd love to have ya!
